[edit] Partnerships
Is an author partnership right for you? For some people, having a partner to work with increases the fun as well as the marketing possibilities.
If you wish to write on a particular subject in which you have years of practical expertise (but few established credentials) writing with someone who has those can give both of you the recognition you might be looking for.
You may also wish to write with a group. Each member would contribute her own subspecialty within the broad topic—for instance, a beauty book with separate chapters and writers focusing on hair, makeup, nutrition, clothes, and so forth.
More than one writer can also increase the prospects and sales opportunities for the book since each person comes with her own connections and fans.
Finally, you can split the work in half with two writers and complete the project more quickly.
As with any collaboration, it is important to thoroughly discuss roles and expectations and to document those expectations in writing. This will include how the revenue and profits will be shared and who has ownership in the intellectual property.
